Product Overview
With the exponential growth of the Internet and increasing business dependency on WAN connectivity drives the need for cost-effective WAN traffic management. This is particularly true for business critical applications which are demanding either more bandwidth or better network quality of service (QoS) management to achieve maximum business process performance and value within an organization.

Xtera's highly reliable AscenFlow WAN traffic management device constantly monitor and analyze on-site traffic between the WAN and the LAN. With AscenFlow traffic analysis tools, abnormal usage alarm and reports, MIS personnel can quickly detect abnormal traffic patterns or usage and to take corresponding corrective actions. All AscenFlow models, namely the M50, M200, M501, M1001 and M2000 are equipped with flexible policy-based traffic management framework enabling network managers to tie an organization's business needs to specific network management policies hence efficiently utilize valuable WAN bandwidth, which is critical to business success in today's Internet age.

To gain optimal control of WAN bandwidth with AscenFlow:

1) Use AscenFlow to monitor network traffic patterns and bandwidth usage between the LAN and the WAN. Then using the collected data, one can determine which applications can and need to be managed.

2) Define QoS and traffic management policies on AscenFlow to implement the traffic management policies. Associate AscenFlow's QoS policies with business requirements using identity-based authentication system via LDAP or NTLM.

3) Once the management policies are defined, AscenFlow will enforce such policies on all inbound and outbound traffic at all times to achieve optimal usage of the valuable WAN bandwidth and to ensure network quality of service.
Product Features
AscenFlow solves today's business-critical network problems such as:
  • WAN congestion due to bandwidth abuse from certain non-business related applications/protocols such as spam mails, P2P sharing, Instant messaging, etc.
  • Inefficient bandwidth resource allocation due to the lack of ability to monitor and analyze traffic patterns.
  • Poor performance and response time on business-critical applications such as ERP, VoIP, Video Conferencing, etc. due to the lack of traffic management and prioritization.
  • Mismatch of traffic and resource management from business management objectives due to the lack of ability to easily associate network management to meet business needs.
  • Low QoS and traffic utilization due to lack of centralized and intuitive policy management capability.
AscenFlow Key Features

-Drop-in deployment with LEM support
AscenFlow's transport model enables simple 'drop-in' deployment in the existing network infrastructure without any modification. In a typical enterprise environment where firewall are already deployed, AscenFlow's LEM module (LAN expansion Module) can be added to support devices in both the Trusted and DMZ zones to provide centralized management to reduce total cost of ownership (TCO).

-Business-friendly with application (Layer 7) protocols traffic management
AscenFlow is capable of analyzing and managing many layer-7 protocols such as VoIP protocols (H.323 and SIP), Video Conferencing, ERP, and various IM protocols. With such layer-7 capability, AscenFlow empowers business communications and improve effectiveness by providing network quality of service management.

1

-Map business requirements to network management policies
Network traffic management policies can be defined according to business requirements by using AscenFlow's built-in authentication mechanism or by integrating external identity-based system. In other words, instead of using purely IP based traffic management policies, AscenFlow can be integrated with Microsoft's Active Directory, RADIUS servers, or LDAP servers to associate QoS policies to users and groups in an organization.

1

-Quota
As broadband usage proliferates coupled with the alarming rise of file sharing trend, in certain cases, it is important to assign quota for user bandwidth consumption, particularly in the education institutions, hot spots, or in a community with shared Internet access provider subsystem.
AscenFlow's Quota system supports two different quota mechanisms: prepaid and periodical, in order to meet different real-life business needs. The quota system can also be integrated with external accounting and billing systems.

1

-Prevent and reduce the impact from malicious traffic
Today, all IT dependent businesses face a similar challenge - security. Malicious traffic ranging from worms, DoS(Denial of Service) attacks, to more organized yet aggressive group behaviors of P2P networks have caused significant and costly disruption to business operation. With continuous monitoring, analysis, and warning mechanisms, AscenFlow can effectively block or reduce malicious traffic that may cause negative impact to the business-critical IT infrastructure.
